CLASSworks is DEAN’s main program through which we introduce ICT to primary and secondary schools. Introducing ICT in education requires much more than providing the hardware, although that is also important. In 2007, we came across the 4-in-balance model used by Kennisnet when introducing ICT within education. We have embraced this model and the CLASSworks logo is also based on it.
To use ICT successfully in education, vision, knowledge & skills, infrastructure and content must be balanced. This is illustrated by the four pillars in our logo. When implementing CLASSworks in schools, we ensure that the school leadership’s (vision) expectations are realistic. We do this by organizing regular meetings for school leadership. We provide a basic infrastructure of a server and tablets and we train teachers so they can handle them. In addition, we provide educational content that aligns with the national curriculum and guide teachers in using this content in existing teaching. In doing so, we connect as much as possible to existing realities and show digital teaching tools’ possibilities. In doing so, we pay close attention to the changing role of the teacher in the learning process.
When these four pillars are balanced with each other, balanced steps can be taken in the transition process from traditional to more modern education.
