Crowdfunding

Why schools use crowdfunding

Every school that participates in CLASSworks contributes in addition to the subsidised amount covered by DEAN. Not every school can afford this amount, so we offer crowdfunding as an option for those schools. Crowdfunding empowers your school to take ownership of this project while sharing your mission with a broader audience. It creates a sustainable way to fund essential equipment and training that would otherwise be out of reach.

How it works

  • Schools apply

We select schools ready to implement CLASSworks

  • You donate
Donations are collected securely via GlobalGiving
  • Impact delivered
Funds unlock tablets, robotics kits and teacher training.

All donations are processed by GlobalGiving, a trusted international crowdfunding platform for social impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CLASSworks?

CLASSworks is an innovative programme developed by DEAN to help schools integrate digital learning and foster social growth. It equips schools with the tools, training and support needed to prepare students for a rapidly changing, technology-driven world. The programme consists of three components: CLASSworks Foundation, TechQuest, and ClubConnect, each designed to build digital skills and foster collaboration.

What is CLASSworks Foundation?

The Foundation provides the essential groundwork for digital literacy within schools. It focuses on establishing the necessary infrastructure, providing teacher training, and offering ongoing support. By establishing this foundation, schools can confidently and independently run digital learning programmes, ensuring that technology becomes a sustainable part of their education system.

What is TechQuest?

TechQuest is an engaging, interactive learning environment where students develop practical digital skills through hands-on tasks and creative challenges. It encourages problem-solving, critical thinking and innovation, helping learners to not only understand technology but also apply it in meaningful ways. TechQuest is designed to make learning fun and relevant to real-world scenarios.

What is ClubConnect?

ClubConnect is a community-driven approach that brings students together in clubs to deepen their digital knowledge and collaborate on projects. These clubs promote teamwork, creativity and social engagement, creating a space where learners can share ideas, experiment with technology and build confidence in their digital abilities.

How does the crowdfunding process work?

Schools participating in CLASSworks are encouraged to raise a commitment fee through the GlobalGiving platform within eight weeks. This fee is an important step in the process, as it demonstrates the school’s ownership and active involvement in the programme. By contributing to their own development, schools show commitment to making digital learning a priority.

Can I trust that my donation reaches the school?

Yes. All funds go directly into a verified GlobalGiving account linked to the school, managed under DEAN’s transparent framework. You can track progress through the campaign’s progress bar and see exactly how far each school has come. Once a goal is reached, the school will begin the DEAN digital learning programme, and this achievement will be publicly shared.

What happens if a school doesn’t reach its goal?

If a campaign falls short, DEAN works closely with the school to review progress. The campaign may be extended, or donations will be returned to donors. Transparency and trust are at the heart of this project, ensuring fairness for both schools and supporters.

How can I support, even if I can’t donate right now?

You can do more than you think! Share the campaign link with friends or family, mention it in your community, alumni group, or office WhatsApp chat. Even one small act of sharing can create a ripple effect of support. Together, we can make digital education the norm for every child in Kenya and beyond.
